Included is an Olds 3C cornet mouthpiece it was gold-plated, but the plating shows wear. The case latches still work, but the springs are broken. The cornet will ship in its original case, which is fairly worn with some noticeable scuff marks but still offers protection. But with my advancing years I just don't play it much anymore, and this is a horn that someone should use and enjoy. I've been selling off most of my horns over the last couple of years. The yellow cast in the spot on the lower left of the bell in picture 7 is a reflection, not anything on the horn. Picture 5 shows the offset middle valve, characteristic of all the Recording cornets and trumpets. The original lacquer has taken on a beautiful honey hue typical of these older horns and is mostly in tact a few areas show some wear, but not at all unsightly. The horn has no dents and very few slight dings. The third slide trigger works just as it should, and all other slides pull smoothly. The valves show very little wear, having excellent compression and smooth action. It's in excellent shape both cosmetically and mechanically. S/N 195023, manufactured in about 1956 in Fullerton, Calif. This Olds Recording cornet is a wonderful horn. If you have wanted one of these horns but haven't been able to pay the thousands of dollars to get one off of ebay, now's your chance.
This is a pro line cornet, and it is also a great collector. But as I stated, this horn is a magnificent player. My goal is to make you aware of all of the cosmetic blemishes on the horn. The cornet doesn't come in the original case. The lacquer is coming off all around the horn, there is an obvious solder repair on the connector for the first valve slide and the bell crook, a few small ping dents on the valve slides and on the bell. The mouthpiece receive curves into the horn ever so slightly. Again, it looks like it got crunched at some point, but it doesn't seem to affect the playing at all. At some point it looks like the bell got crunched. This cornet is dated to the 1950's(serial is 449849) This cornet has seen a lot of action. This is a pro model Conn Recording Cornet. The horn has great compression and all slides are well-greased. I am selling the Cornet which is well taken care of and will shine up pretty nice. more Please note: I have included pics of both the Trumpet and Cornet so that you can see the difference between the two. As I said I, I play the trumpet& cornet and am fortunate to have other similar, and rare, instruments of this same vintage so I'm offering this at a bargain price. It has about 85% or more of the original finish and I'm usually able to get similarly-aged trumpets to look pretty good. Being vintage it does have rub marks throughout. Still relatively shiny and looks absolutely fantastic on stage. I love to collect and play cornets and trumpets and I tried this one and it plays fine.
The cornet is part of the trumpet family and produces a noticeably warmer sound and cornets by this company are considered must-haves by collectors and professional musicians alike. Up for auction is a vintage mid/late 1960s professional F.E.Olds& Son Recording cornet I acquired at an estate sale.
